Beacon Fisheries Joins Seafood Nutrition Partnership

May 25, 2015

Beacon Fisheries joins the Seafood Nutrition Partnership out of Washington DC. The SNP is a non-profit organization that was founded to promote the consumption and the health benefits of eating seafood as a regular portion of your diet.

Last year Americans consumed 14.4 lbs. of seafood per capita while consuming over 24 lbs. of coffee and 140+ lbs. of sugar. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) says a healthy omega 3 level should be around 8, but for the average American it is between 2 and 3. In October the SNP will run seafood awareness campaigns in 8 US cities including Jacksonville, Florida. There will be many media and social events around this campaign and SNP will be looking for several hundred volunteers to have their omega 3 levels tested and tracked over a four month period while they commit to consume 8 oz. of seafood twice a week and watch their omega 3 levels increase.

Beacon Fisheries is proud to be one of the sponsors of this event. If you would like to participate in this event please contact Mike Eddy at Beacon. We are looking for Chefs, Seafood distributors, Seafood Markets, doctors, nurses, schools, businesses or any type of organization or individuals that would like to help us promote the health benefits of seafood. SNP works very closely with the American Heart Assn. For more information please click on the link below to visit SNP’s website.
